I can offer a wide range of services to accommodate the majority of foot and lower limb conditions. General ChiropodyThis includes care of nails, hard skin and corns of the feet; an assessment of the circulation to the feet and advice on skin care and appropriate footwear.Diabetic FootcareDiabetes is diagnosed in more people today and appears to be on the increase. This disease process can affect the circulation and sensation to the lower limb.Poor circulation and loss of feeling can lead to ulceration, infection or loss of limb if allowed to progress beyond control. A Diabetic Assessment includes circulatory and neurological examination, with appropriate advice on individual care to promote self-awareness and self-management. PLEASE NOTE: Diabetic Foot care is available with NHS. Biomechanical AssessmentThis is an assessment of the lower limbs during your gait cycle. In other words, how we walk or run! We should be able to put one foot in front of the other to get from A to B in a straight line with the use of minimal effort. However, this is not always the case and sometimes requires the specialist advice to improve the situation. This may result in in promotion of exercise regimes, appropriate footwear, the use of orthoses/insoles or surgical referral. To enable your Podiatrist to carry out this assessment you are required to bring a pair of shorts / skirt and shoes worn during activity. Nail SurgeryNail surgery may be indicated for an ingrown toenail, which may result from trauma or disease.A comprehensive assessment is made prior to surgery to ensure suitable risk management, with follow up care and dressings to promote wound healing, pain relief and resolution of the problem. Child AssessmentsYounger children can often appear to have an 'odd' gait walking in-toed, walking on their toes, or wearing down their shoes too quickly. This assessment will reveal if the problem is one of 'growth' or if orthoses / insoles are needed to correct the situation.Sometimes exercise and appropriate footwear is all that is needed to correct the problem, but occasionally, referral to a specialist orthopaedic consultant is necessary.
